An overwhelming majority of business leaders surveyed by Strategy& in HBR's Build a Leadership Team for Transformation agree that leaders need to balance six seemingly paradoxical qualities to build competitive advantages in today's increasingly complex world. The Implication
Proficiency gaps will lead to a shortage of value creators
While the majority of survey participants agreed that it is important for their leaders & teams to balance those six paradoxical expectations, significantly less felt confident that their current leaders were either "good" or "best in class" at both elements in each paradox.
As a result of these proficiency gaps, companies will either need to upskill their current leaders or hire new leaders who can balance these paradoxical demands.
